2009-10 Western Conference All-Stars

Updated: February 8, 2010 at 8:34 pm by Matt Bennett
Opinions

There’s no official NHL All-Star game this year because of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver but we still left the vote up to you!  Voting ended at the end of January and we’ve tallied up the results for the Western Conference All-Star team.

Your 2009-10 Western Conference starting lineup:

Dany Heatley

Dany Heatley – 86%

59 points in 55 games up to the end of the voting period and 1/3 of one of the most productive lines in the game, Heatley was a no brainer.  He joins linemate Patrick Marleau in the top-5 of league scoring and has a league-leading 15 powerplay goals.

Joe THornton

Joe Thornton – 85%

An integral part of the Sharks’ offensive attack since coming over from Boston, Thornton is making another case for the Hart Trophy as the league MVP.  The dishmaster had 68 points up until the end of January, leading the league in assists, and has the 4th most powerplay points.

Jarome Iginla – 75%

52 points in 55 games through January, Iginla was a top-25 scorer and still one of the leaders for time on ice per game with 20:40.  Iginla narrowly beat out Patrick Marleau by 3% of the votes to prevent an all-Sharks top forward line.

Dan Boyle

Dan Boyle – 80%

Every good powerplay needs a good quarterback and Boyle is up there with the best of them.  Boyle ranks 4th among defensemen in points and powerplay points and eats up a 6th-best 26:03 per game.

Duncan Keith

Duncan Keith – 78%

When you shatter your previous career-best in points of 44 by mid-January, an All-Star vote is almost a requirement.  Duncan Keith is en-route to a career year and is getting some serious Norris Trophy consideration, trailing only Mike Green by 3 points in the scoring race.

Ilya Bryzgalov

Ilya Bryzgalov – 52%

Prior to struggling through a 3.45 GAA in January, Bryzgalov was sporting a 24-10-3 record with a 2.01 GAA and 5 shutouts.  In what would be his first All-Star season, Bryzgalov is no-doubt one of the largest contributing factors to the Coyotes current success.
