The Atlanta Thrashers have invited Maxim Afinogenov, the former Buffalo Sabre, to their training camp for a tryout. He is expected to arrive at camp this Thursday night. Afinogenov is often criticized for his defensive play and his offensive turnovers, but he has a load of offensive talent and new scenery could do wonders for his game. Afinogenov had just 20 points last season in an injury filled season, and played just 56 games the two previous season due to injuries and coaching decisions. In his last full NHL season (05/06) he put up 73 points in 77 games. Great move by the Thrashers. It’s worth a shot.
UPDATE: Afinogenov has signed a one year, $800, 000 contract with the Thrashers.
