Flyers Re-sign Their Main Agitator for One Year

Updated: July 13, 2010 at 11:40 pm by Alexander Monaghan
Fantasy Advice, Opinions

The Philadelphia Flyers and winger Dan Carcillo will avoid arbitration and agree to a contract for one season and 1.075 million.

At that rate, you have to figure Carcillo took a hometown discount to alleviate cap pressure on his team. He still puts himself in position to get a decent raise once the Flyers gain cap space. Another good season with a strong team will certain raise his value as he enters another RFA year.

Paul Holmgren still needs to make another move, as we previously speculated. Carcillo made it clear to the team that he wanted to stay on the team and gives them more value for his cap hit.

Nobody can forget his excellent rookie season with Phoenix where he potted 13 goals and racked up 324 PIM. In a full season with Philadelphia he showed promise of repeating those numbers with 12 goals and 207 PIM. If you are in a league with depth on the wing, Carcillo will give you a contribution in more than one category than PIM– a rarity amongst fighters.

In other news, both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens re-signed their agitators Jared Boll and Maxim Lapierre respectively. With most of the league still waiting for Ilya Kovalchuk to sign, it makes sense for teams to lock in a role Kovalchuk could not possibly fill.
