Tyler Seguin expected to play two-way game

Fantasy Advice

We recently read a very detailed reasoning on how the Bruins will handle Tyler Seguin over on Puck Daddy and decided to consider how it relates to your fantasy team.

Seguin will break into the league with two of the best people he could possibly play with in a Selke candidate Patrice Bergeron and a future hall-of-famer Mark Recchi.  While this seasoning may be the best way to get the kid’s feet wet, our fantasy team may need to wait a year until he reaches his actual ceiling.

Not only will Seguin play wing, which we like better, but he will be relegated to second line duties to at least start.  Yes, there will be less pressure on a lower line but any owner would want their top prospect playing in every opportunity they can.  Seguin may be hardpressed to see top powerplay time due to the talented nature of the roster making Taylor Hall seem like a much more appealing pick despite the poor team.

A season similar to Matt Duchene may not seem out of the question but Duchy found himself on the top powerplay unit almost all season. Also keep in mind only 13 other 18-year-olds outscored Duchene during their rookie season.  In other words more than 50 points would be shocking and 35-40 seems a lot more likely especially on the second line.

We still like Seguin as a prospect, it seems pretty hard not to after the season he had in the OHL.  Like Steven Stamkos and probably John Tavares the first season will be one of plenty of seasoning before truly showing his potential.
