One bloody Hockey Night in Canada recked the season of Mike Cammalleri, making him miss 14 games in the process. Before that injury, Cammy had been leading the Montreal Canadiens in goal scoring as he enjoyed the first year of a multi-year contract. He seemed to be fitting in just fine with either Tomas Plekanec or Scott Gomez en route to another season of 30 + goals and near point-per-game production.
Well he returned and slumped through two points over his final nine games leading to an abrupt decrease in value starting the season. Keep in mind the pundits who make the Yahoo! rankings must have forgotten about his 39 goals the season before or more importantly his 19 points in as many playoff games.
Last season, Cammalleri was ranked in the top 25 players overall. His skill set and ability to finish are rivaled by very few. If you see this legitimate goal scoring threat still available in the 5th round, do not hesitate. Over the years he has proved that he can produce on both good and bad teams. Montreal holds a good amount of depth up front and have the momentum of a strong playoff run, which could increase his value even more.
Regardless, the team could use his production and likely will look to him as their go-to scorer. Not a bad option if you ask me.
