For all the talk about the San Jose Sharks starting a 1a, 1b situation between Antti Niemi and Antero Niittymaki; the team will begin camp with Niemi as their bonafide number one.
This sudden change of events clearly makes sense to most of the hockey world and especially to fantasy owners. While his post season numbers looked subpar, his regular season with the Chicago Blackhawks was particularly impressive finishing fourth amongst qualified leaders in GAA.
Since there seems to be some sort of controversy regarding a starter, Niemi could be had at a much lower price than expected. It seems like Niittymaki will take some of the load from the 27-year-old Stanley Cup winner but not enough to lower his value in standard leagues; more of a push from a backup situation.
Anyways, we will continue to monitor the situation as we move forward. However, the thought of a Stanley Cup winning goaltender on a Western Conference powerhouse makes our mouths salivate.
