The Cycle: More Fun With Numbers

Fantasy Advice

The cycle spans the internet for intelligent, well-thought out articles which either help your fantasy team or will give you some better incite on your favorite team. If you feel we should add your link, feel free to contact us at contact at dailyfaceoff dot com or on twitter @dailyfaceoff.

Kevin McGran of The Toronto Star has some fun with numbers, singling out the best and worst bargains in the League. Brian Boyle and Claude Giroux prove to be steals if your fantasy league incorporates real-life salaries.

Ducks winger Matt Beleskey complained about going back to the AHL over the All-Star break yet Dan Sexton is thankful for his opportunity to even be called up. While the former lives with star winger Corey Perry, Sexton takes the shuttle for the eighth time over the last three months. Excellent piece from Jeff Miller of The OC Register.

Justin Bourne makes a guest appearance on Deadspin to talk about Evgeni Nabokov, and takes a well-deserved hammering in the comments section, as Deadspin commenters are prone to handing out. Not only does he compare himself to an actual NHL player, which seems to be his MO but he also takes a brash approach as to why Nabokov should play for the Islanders– the team he clearly roots for.

Iain Fyffe of Puck Prospectus takes a look at some Junior hockey projections by examining data from the 80′s and 90′s while also seeing just how much birth month can effect a player’s projectable value.

Eric Rigsby of Puck ‘N Hockey reviews the recent contract extension between Alexander Semin and the Washington Capitals.  The talented Russian winger stays in D.C. for at least another year, but could become a valuable asset around the trade deadline.  Fans and fantasy owners alike also ponder if the new contract will result in big goal numbers for Semin once he’s fully healthy.

Similarly, Dominik of Lighthouse Hockey puts the Matt Moulson signing in perspective, comparing his recent extension to similar players like Lee Stempniak, Brad Boyes and Alex Frolov. The one distinguishing factor between the aforementioned players and Moulson has to be the latter consistently produces as an Islander, with 45 goals over his last 1.5+ seasons.

Peter Forsberg wants to return to the Colorado Avalanche, but will he clear waivers? Dave Strehle of NHLhotstove.com gives an excellent review of the situation.

We hope you enjoyed reading our choice of topics this week.  Keep in mind this segment is still somewhat under construction and more than willing to take constructive criticism. If you feel we omitted some interesting pieces, feel free to reach out to us!
