Picks: Canucks Host the Oilers

Updated: October 26, 2009 at 12:23 pm by Matt Bennett
Betting

40-35-1: There was certainly a lot of scoring last night but not where I thought it would be!  The Canucks played a horrible game and still lucked out with the -1.5 win thanks to that empty netter and Craig Anderson stood on his head, turning away 48 Red Wing shots.  Also, 2-0 on the puck line if you noticed.  Just a few games to look at tonight!

Looking for a great sportsbook site to place your bets? I use and trust Bodog and bet365 to place my hockey bets but if you are looking for a site where you can bet for free, try CentSports. You always have a minimum of 10 cents to start off and let you bet on the NHL and other sports. When you increase your balance, you are eligible to cash out! Remember that I post these picks for fun and I encourage you to do the same (i.e. don’t bet what you can’t afford to lose).  All lines are provided by bet365 and are current at the time of posting.

San Jose Sharks +105 at Philadelphia Flyers -125

The Sharks are playing extraordinarily well on their 6-game East coast road trip, losing only 2, and will round it out tonight in Philly.  The Flyers are riding a 2-game win streak after demolishing the Panthers last night.  It’s likely that the Flyers will be without leading scorer Mike Richards after his hit on David Booth and it also appears that former Shark Brian Boucher will get the nod against his former squad.  Both teams have gone over the game total in their last three games and these teams have gone over in 4 of their last 5 meetings.  Putting the backups in net helps the case for the over as Brian Boucher is confirmed to get his first action of the season against his former team.  Philly is the third-highest scoring team in the league with 3.8 goals per game and San Jose has the second-best powerplay at 29.2%.
Pick: Over 6.0 goals +105

Edmonton Oilers +140 at Vancouver Canucks -160

Edmonton played a lot better than the 5-2 score last night in Calgary – they just ran into a hotter goalie.  Vancouver, on the other hand, played far worse than the score showed.  It’s as if the Canucks’ offense didn’t even show up, only generating 25 shots when they’ve averaged 34 per game on the year.  It was a poor way to follow up a convincing victory vs. the Blackhawks and if they play like that again tonight, the Oilers will walk all over them.  Edmonton’s offense is still clicking, averaging 3.8 goals per game matched up against the Canucks 2.90 goals for.  Edmonton also has no trouble winning in Vancouver as they’ve won 4 of the last 6 at GM Place.  Good odds on the Oilers who had their 3 game winning streak snapped last night.
Pick: Oilers +140
