Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the greatest NHL player (for October) of them all? Is it Alexander Ovechkin’s with his torrid goal scoring? How about M-A Fleury and his stellar play between the pipes? Unfortunately for these two and the rest of the NHLer’s, no one matched the unbelievable play of the Los Angelas Kings forward Anze Kopitar……that sweet sweet former Yugoslavian!
In 14 games played in the month of October, Kopitar accumulated 10 goals 11 assists for a total of 21 points. He has gelled with his line mates Ryan Smyth, Justin Williams, and on occasion Dustin Brown and Wayne Simmonds. He has elevated his game to a new level this season as he is maturing into an elite level forward. Kopitar has the expectation to score or create a chance every shift and has the confidence to back this up. He no longer wishes to score every game, he knows he’s going to score.
Kopitar is the Los Angeles King’s shining beacon of hope to carry the team into the playoffs for the first time in years. It may be a lot to ask Kopitar to continue his current scoring pace this season, but an 85 point season is not out of the question should he and his line mates stay healthy.
For now though, in the month of October, Anze Kopitar was the best to lace ‘em up!
