Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward left Saturday night’s game in the first period and had to be helped off the ice as blood dripped on the ice leaving a trail behind him. It appeared  as if Ward was hit on his left leg by Rick Nash’s skate as Nash crashed into the goal. Ward was taken to a hospital and will stay over night as a precaution as he lost a lot of blood.  Paul Maurice said the injury is “serious”.

UPDATE: Team officials said that Ward was in stable condition.

UPDATE 2: Cam Ward could be sidelined for a month, GM Jim Rutherford said this afternoon. Not considered a season-  ending injury.

Hope it’s not too serious. Talk about a bad season start ! I always like this goalie… even if he took the Habs out of the playoff the year they won the Cup.

Such an innocent looking play. I hope he is alright as well. He took out my Oilers that year in the playoffs too :(
