Picks: Stars Look to Continue Canes’ Road Woes

While the Canes have been winning, they still need to prove something on the road – where they are winless.

Looking for a great sportsbook site to place your bets? I use and trust Bodog to place my hockey bets but if you are looking for a site where you can bet for free, try CentSports. You always have a minimum of 10 cents to start off and let you bet on the NHL and other sports. When you increase your balance, you are eligible to cash out! Remember that I post these picks for fun and I encourage you to do the same (i.e. don’t bet what you can’t afford to lose). All lines are provided by Bodog and are current at the time of posting.

Boston Bruins -105 at St. Louis Blues -115

The Bruins are getting Marc Savard back tonight and should immediately improve a lineup already looking better after the recent return of Milan Lucic.  The Bruins struggled without those two offensive powerhouses and are certainly welcoming them back with open arms.  The Blues are also finding a scoring touch of late, scoring 7 goals in their last 2 games against the Coyotes and Islanders.  In their last 3 meetings (over the past 3 seasons), the away team has taken this game in and the Bruins look set to take it again tonight.  Both teams feature top-10 defenses and this game is likely to be low-scoring provided we see Tim Thomas in net but he’s had a nagging injury so he could be out.  It’s also a matchup of the two worst powerplays but again the return of Savard bolsters the Bruins powerplay.  The Bruins are riding a 2-game win streak, both wins on the road, and the Blues are also riding a 2-game win streak with two straight wins at home.
Pick: Bruins -105

Carolina Hurricanes +170 at Dallas Stars -200

Say it ain’t so but the Canes have turned things around a bit and won 3 of their last 4 – that’s more wins with Michael Leighton and Manny Legace manning the pipes than Cam Ward got in 15 starts.  The Canes are scoring a lot and have gone over the game total in 2 of those wins.  The Stars are coming off of a big win at home when they took advantage of a banged up Devils team and should build off of that tonight.  They’re a tough team at home and keep games very close, going 4-3-3 and 2-1-1 at home to Eastern teams.  The Canes still don’t have a road win and are still 0-12 as underdogs on the season – giving you an impression of the teams they’ve managed to beat.  The Canes average a league-worst 1.8 goals per game on the road and a whopping 4.10 goals against.  While they might be playing better, they are still outmatched by a skilled Dallas team.
Pick: Stars -200

haha the fan vote was an experiment to show the difficulty in picking the NHL… i was kind of hoping it do really well as kind of a “people’s choice” or whatever but it hasn’t panned out like that yet… still 3/4 of a season left though!
