Picks: Habs Host Bruins for Centennial Game

Updated: December 5, 2009 at 11:09 am by Matt Bennett
Betting

The Habs are the home underdog tonight in a historic game against the Bruins, will they make it 5 straight losses?  Those of you following the fan picks should be happy to know it’s been perfect all week!  Pick a winner tonight and keep the streak alive!

Looking for a great sportsbook site to place your bets? I use and trust Bodog to place my hockey bets but if you are looking for a site where you can bet for free, try CentSports. You always have a minimum of 10 cents to start off and let you bet on the NHL and other sports. When you increase your balance, you are eligible to cash out! Remember that I post these picks for fun and I encourage you to do the same (i.e. don’t bet what you can’t afford to lose). All lines are provided by Bodog and are current at the time of posting.

Tampa Bay Lightning +170 at New Jersey Devils -200

To go against Martin Brodeur, as good as he’s been all year, is near-crazy.  To go against him after he collapsed in such a “meaningful” game against the Canucks is near-insane.  He’s back in the net tonight and should be back to his old form tonight, especially against the can’t-score Lightning.  The Bolts have scored 1 goals over their last 2 games and average a dismal 2.2 goals per game on the road en route to a 4-6-4 road record.  The Devils held opponents to 1 goal in each of their 3 games prior to the Canucks game and own the 8th-best home defense.  New Jersey has won 9 straight games versus the Bolts.
Pick: Devils -200

Boston Bruins -140 at Montreal Canadiens +120

The Habs have treated us all to some near awful hockey lately, losing 4 straight and getting outscored 16-6 over that stretch.  However, tonight is the centennial game for the Canadiens, celebrating 100 years since the franchise was founded.  If anything, the fans will be rampant and create a very hostile playing environment for the Bruins, which helps the Habs try to avoid 5 straight.  The Bruins obviously have the advantage in goaltending but besides that they matchup fairly evenly.  There’s always value in the home underdog and the Habs should be more than desperate to give the Bruins a heck of a game.
Pick: Habs +120

Fan Favourite Record: 13-11, -0.75
