Kevin Poulin News

The Lightning have placed Kevin Poulin on waivers.

Poulin served as Ben Bishop’s backup for the first eight games of the season. He was placed on waivers this afternoon because Kristers Gudlevskis will start tonight and Andrei Vasilevskiy is nearing a return from a blood clot.

On Sunday, the Lightning claimed Kevin Poulin off of waivers from the Islanders.

Poulin, 25, spent the last four years with the Islanders organization after being drafted by them in the fifth round of the 2008 Entry Draft. During that span, Poulin was 18-25-3 with a 3.07 GAA and .899 SV% at the NHL level. Claiming him and cutting Ray Emery likely puts Poulin in as Ben Bishop’s backup to start the season while Andrei Vasilevskiy recovers from a blood clot.

Poulin, 24, has been recalled because Michal Neuvirth is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. With Jaroslav Halak starting last night, there is a chance that Poulin could make his second start of the season. He has gone 16-19-7 with a 2.84 GAA and .913 SV% in 43 games with Bridgeport this season.

Poulin, not Chad Johnson will get the start for the Islanders.

Poulin, 24, has gone 10-6-4 with a 2.41 GAA and .928 SV% in 20 games with Bridgeport this season. Johnson has had his fair share of struggles this season, so with Jaroslav Halak out, the Isles will give Poulin the nod tonight vs. Buffalo. He makes for a nice spot-start option.

Poulin allowed five goals on 28 shots in a 6-4 loss to the Penguins on Thursday. It was a rough outing, but it was predictable against a Sidney Crosby led Penguins team who play very well vs. the Isles. It doesn't get any easier when he faces the Blues tonight.
