The Canucks have signed Patrick Wiercioch to a one-year deal worth $650K.

Wiercioch had 12 points (4G / 8A) in 57 games with the Avalanche last season and has never appeared in more then 56 games in any of his first five NHL seasons. Now in Vancouver, Wiercioch is expected to serve as their No.7 defenseman.

Wiercioch, 25, had just five assists in 52 games with the Senators last season. He appeared in 42-to-56 games in each of the last four seasons, averaging three goals and 12 assists per year. Wiercioch brings some depth to a thin Avalanche blueline.

Wiercioch has been a healthy scratch in the last two games, but will be back in the lineup tonight in Florida. Wiercioch has just three assists in 19 games this season. With Wiercioch back in the lineup, Shane Prince will be a healthy scratch and the Senators will go with seven defensemen.

Wiercioch has missed the last four games, but is expected to be back in the lineup on Thursday vs. the Kings. He has one goal and three assists in 15 games this season. To make room for Wiercioch, the Sens placed Milan Michalek (upper-body) on IR.

Wiercioch was scratched on Tuesday and did not practice on Wednesday, presumably because he was dealing with a muscle strain. His designation to IR allowed the Senators to activate Marc Methot, who could be making his season debut tonight. Wiercioch is day-to-day.

Wiercioch has been a healthy scratch in the last three games, but returns tonight against the Wild. He had his coming-out party in the shortened season, posting five goals and 19 points in 42 games. The 23-year-old is on a crowded blueline in Ottawa and has six assists in 14 games.

The Ottawa Senators re-signed defenceman Patrick Wiercioch to a three-year contract worth $2 million US per year on Monday.

The 22-year-old restricted free agent appeared in 42 of Ottawa's 48 regular-season games in 2012-13, registering a career-high 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) to go along with a plus-9 rating and 39 penalty minutes. In 50 career NHL games, Wiercioch has 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) and 43 penalty minutes.

Wiercioch was hit by a puck to the throat last night and was rushed to the hospital. While he hasn't played an NHL game this year, he was relatively high on the minor league depth chart.
