Martin (ankle) will not play Monday but is hopeful that he will return Thursday.

Martin has been out since the second game of the season with an ankle injury, but it looks like he may return Thursday vs. the Hurricanes. If Martin plays, he will likely take Joakim Ryan’s spot on the blueline and skate alongside Brent Burns.

Martin had his ankle surgically repaired this offseason and it has not responded well in the early part of the season. There’s no indication how long Martin will be sidelined, but Joakim Ryan has been recalled to take his spot in the lineup for the time being.

Martin has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury, but he will return to the lineup tonight vs. the Hurricanes. Martin has one assist and a plus-2 rating in four games this season.

Martin missed Saturday’s game vs. the Islanders and he is not on the ice for the Sharks’ morning skate, which suggests he’s going to miss a second straight game. With Martin out, Dylan DeMelo is expected to remain in the lineup.

Martin was listed as a game-time decision, but is on the ice so it looks like he will play. Martin has missed the last eight games, but should be in and paired with Kris Letang tonight vs.the Bruins. He has seven points (1G / 6A) in 31 games.

Martin, who returned to practice on Tuesday, was on the ice for the Penguins game day skate this morning. Coach Mike Johnston said that Martin could return tonight, but if he doesn’t he will definitely be back on Saturday vs. the Canadiens. Monitor his status during pre-game warmups.

Martin has missed the last four games, but he took part in Saturday’s morning skate and today’s practice which is a good sign he is close. Brian Dumoulin was also sent back to the AHL this morning which presumably opened up a roster spot for Martin.

There is no word on what is ailing Martin, but he will not play tonight vs. the Penguins. He could be back by Monday, but he joins Christian Ehrhoff, Robert Bortuzzo and Olli Maatta as injured Penguins blue liners.

Martin was a full participant in the Penguins' morning skate where he played on the top power-play unit. Martin has missed the last 18 games, but has two goals and 10 assists in 33 games this season.

Martin has not played since February 7 after suffering a hand injury in the Olympics while playing for Team USA. While Martin is nearing a return, there is still no word when he will be back in the lineup. Martin is hoping that he plays this weekend, but continue to monitor his status as the Penguins take this day-to-day.
