Zbynek Michalek News

Michalek has been recalled from Tucson (AHL) and will play on Monday.

Michalek has 14 points (6G / 8A) in 43 games with Tucson this season, but earned himself a late-season call-up and will make his season debut on Monday. The 34-year-old blueliner has 178 points (42G / 136A) in 781 career NHL games and this might be a move to allow the veteran to finish out his Coyotes career in an NHL uniform.

The Coyotes have placed Zbynek Michalek on waivers.

Michalek, 33, has picked up just 29 points (8G / 21A) over the last three seasons and his physical brand of defence can be made up by a younger blueliner in Arizona. The Coyotes have an abundance of young defensemen and Michalek appears to be on the outside looking in.

The Blues have acquired Zbynek Michalek and a conditional 2015 3rd round pick from Arizona for prospect Maxim Letunov.

Michalek has missed the last six games with a concussion, but he was expected to return to the ice later today, before he was dealt to St. Louis. Michalek is a great shot blocking defenseman and replaces the hole Roman Polak left when he went to Toronto. Michalek has eight points (2G / 6A) in 53 games this season.

Michalek (upper-body) will not play on Monday.

Michalek did not travel to Colorado with the team because he is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. With Michalek out, Brandon Gormley will be in the lineup and is expected to be paired with Oliver Ekman-Larsson. After tonight the Coyotes are off until Saturday, so Michalek could be ready to go by then.
