Douglas Murray News

The Flames have signed Douglas Murray to a professional tryout (PTO).

Murray, 35, has not played an NHL game this season, he has one assist in eight games with the Cologne Sharks in Germany. If he signs he won’t be eligible to play in the playoffs, but he will try to jumpstart his career for 2015-16.

Murray has been suspended for three games for his elbow on Lightning defenseman Mike Kostka on Tuesday.

This is not a huge loss for the Canadiens, because Murray frequently serves as a healthy scratch. Murray is eligible to return next Thursday vs. the Islanders.

The Penguins have acquired defenseman Douglas Murray from the Sharks in exchange for two 2nd round picks.

The Penguins appear to be loading up for a Stanley Cup run. The got Brenden Morrow yesterday and now another big gritty player in Murray today. Murray (6'4" - 240 lbs.) is a great hitter but he is not offensive, making him irrelevant in fantasy.

It is unclear whether Murray will be available tonight against the Hurricanes, but it doesn't seem likely as he told me this morning at the Tampa Bay airport that he'll "hopefully" be able to play against the Red Wings on Sunday in Detroit.

Murray probably misses tonight's game due to the fluke injury. The physical d-man has four assists in 45 games.
