Sami Salo News

Sami Salo announced his retirement from the NHL on Thursday.

Salo, 40, played 878 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished his career with 99 goals and 240 assists (339 points) but has not played since the 2013-14 season because of a wrist injury.

Salo (upper-body) will not play Friday.

Salo said he felt good after skating this morning, but will miss a second straight game with an upper-body injury. Mike Kostka will stay in the lineup with Salo still sidelined. Consider him day-to-day, he will be ready for the playoffs by the sounds of things.

Salo (lower-body) left this afternoon's game and did not return.

Salo only played 4:30 in the Lightning's win over the Flyers. He left with an apparent leg injury, putting very limited weight on his leg as he left the ice. Expect a full update later today or on Sunday. The Lightning have a lot of D depth, expect Mark Barberio to slide back in if Salo can't play on Monday.

Salo (upper-body) skated with Victor Hedman this morning, a good sign that he will return to the lineup tonight.

Salo is expected to return tonight after missed the last four games with an upper-body injury that he suffered on December 23 vs. the Panthers. He had been skating for the last few days, so there is a really good chance that he returns tonight vs. the Oilers. He has one goal and six assists in 34 games.
