Carlson has not played since December 23rd and does not have a timetable for his return. Getting back on the ice on Wednesday was the next step for the 33-year-old, who may not play again this season. Depending on where the Capitals are situated in the playoff race, will likely determine whether or not Carlson suits up again.

John Carlson
Carlson is expected to miss "months, not weeks."

Carlson took a slap shot to the head on December 23rd, and while he did not need surgery, the defenseman is expected to be out until late in the regular season. The Capitals are hopeful that he'll be back well before the playoffs, but it looks like his fantasy hockey season may be over.

Carlson (lower-body) left Saturday's game and is questionable to play Monday.

Carlson left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury in the first period and did not return. Nick Jensen moved up to play with Martin Fehervary at 5v5, and Dmitry Orlov replaced him on the top power-play. Either the Capitals will make a call-up or Matt Irwin will replace Carlson in the lineup on Monday if he can't play.

John Carlson
Carlson (COVID-19 protocol) will return to the Capitals lineup on Monday.

Carlson missed the last four games while in COVID-19 protocol but both he and Dmitry Orlov (suspension) will return to the lineup vs. Vegas. Prior to landing in COVID-19 protocol, Carlson was held pointless in his last four games.
