Mike Green News

Green has opted out of the NHL's Return to Play.

Green is one of six players that has opted out of the NHL playoffs, citing "deeply personal family health reasons." Green only played two games with the Oilers after being acquired from the Red Wings on February 24th. Green's decision completes his trade, with Detroit getting a 2020 fourth-round pick from Edmonton. That could have become a 2021 third-round pick if the Oilers reached the Conference Finals and Green played in 50 percent of the games.

Green will miss three-to-four weeks with a sprained MCL.

Green suffered the injury late in his second game with the Oilers and is expected to miss at least 12-to-15 games with a sprained MCL. Green was added at the deadline to help a banged-up blueline but now joins Oscar Klefbom and Kris Russell on the sidelines. Green should be ready for the final few games of the regular season and playoffs if the Oilers qualify.

The Oilers have acquired Mike Green from the Red Wings for Kyle Brodziak a conditional 2020 fourth-round pick.

The Red Wings will get a 2021 third-round pick instead if the Oilers make it to the Western Conference Finals and Mike Green plays in 50 percent of the games. The Red Wings are also retaining half of Green’s salary. Green helps bolster an Oilers blueline that is currently without Oscar Klefbom and Kris Russell. The veteran defenseman has struggled this season, scoring three goals with eight assists (11 points) and a minus-32 rating in 48 games.

Green (upper-body) will return to the Red Wings lineup on Sunday.

Green missed the last six games with an upper-body injury but will return to the lineup this afternoon vs. the Bruins. Green has struggled most of the season, like many of his teammates, posting just eight points (2G / 6A) in 41 games.

Green is expected to miss a couple of weeks with an upper-body injury.

Green was forced to leave Monday's game with an upper-body injury and head coach Jeff Blashill announced that he'll be out for at least a couple of weeks. With the bye week starting after Wednesday's game, Green could only end up missing roughly seven games. Jonathan Ericsson will likely draw back into the lineup for Ericsson on Wednesday.

Green (personal) is expected to return to the Red Wings lineup on Friday.

Green missed Tuesday's game while attending to a family matter but is expected to play tonight in Dallas. Green has no points in his last six games and has just seven points (2G / 5A) and a minus-24 rating in 32 games this season.

The Red Wings have activated Mike Green (upper-body) from IR.

Green has missed the last four games with an upper-body injury but appears set to play Friday against the Flyers. Green has had a slow start to the season, posting just four points (1G / 3A) in 19 games, so he's not a great fantasy option at this point.

The Red Wings have placed Mike Green (upper-body) on IR.

Green had basically already been ruled out for Sunday's game, so his move to IR opened up a roster spot to call-up Filip Zadina. The move is retroactive to Nov.19, so he's eligible to play Wednesday vs. the Maple Leafs.

Green (upper-body) is expected to miss the next two games.

Green left Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss their two-game road-trip in Columbus and New Jersey. Joe Hicketts was recalled from Grand Rapids (AHL) and is expected to replace Green on Thursday.

Mike Green
Green (personal) will be back in the Red Wings lineup on Tuesday.

Green missed Saturday's game in San Jose to be with his wife for the birth of their child but will be back in the lineup vs. Ottawa. Green had a slow start to the season but has picked up three assists in his last seven games.

Mike Green
Green (illness) will be back in the Red Wings lineup on Friday.

Green has missed the last three games with an illness but will be back in the lineup when the Red Wings host the Bruins on Friday night. Green, who has had a slow start to the year, posting one goal and one assist in 14 games, will play on the third pair with Madison Bowey and on the second power-play unit.

Mike Green
Green (illness) will not play on Monday.

Green will miss his second straight game with an illness, which means that Alex Biega will remain on the Red Wings' blueline. Green has had a tremendously slow start to the season, posting just two points (1G / 1A) in his first 14 games. He could be back for Wednesday's game at Madison Square Garden.

Mike Green
Green (virus) is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Green is dealing with the same virus that he had at the start of the season and a specialist recommended a few weeks rest, which effectively rules him out for the rest of the season. Green finishes his season with 26 points (5G / 21A) in 43 games—10-goal, 40-assist per 82-game pace.

Mike Green
Green (foot) is expected to play Friday.

Green has missed the last 13 games but says he’s ready to play Friday against the Jets. The Red Wings have a back-to-back on Friday/Saturday and Green anticipates playing in both games. This is huge news for the Red Wings, who went 2-8-3 without Green.
