Richard Panik News

The Islanders have acquired Richard Panik and the No.52 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft from the Red Wings for Nick Leddy.

Panik was dealt to Detroit as a part of the Anthony Mantha trade at least year's deadline and had one goal and three assists in 12 games with the Red Wings. Panik has two years remaining at $2.75M AAV but the Red Wings are eating 50 percent of the deal, so the Islanders have Panik at $1.375M AAV and gain $4.125M in cap space in this deal.

Panik (mouth) will play on Monday.

Panik was high sticked by Miles Wood on Saturday and said: "his lower lip was separated from his gums." While that sounds awful, in typical hockey player fashion, Panik will not miss a game. He's had a tough offensive campaign but has three goals and three assists (six points) in his last 13 games.

Panik (upper-body) will return to the Capitals lineup on Monday.

Panik has missed the last 10 games with an upper-body injury but will play Monday vs. the Coyotes. Panik struggled in his first eight games with the Capitals, failing to record a point with a minus-1 rating and seven shots. He'll skate on the third line with Lars Eller and Chandler Stephenson on the Capitals' third-line.

The Capitals have placed Richard Panik (upper-body) on LTIR.

Panik was forced to leave Wednesday’s game against the Maple Leafs after colliding heavily with teammate Jonas Siegenthaler. Immediately moving him to LTIR means it’s a fairly significant upper-body issue and means that he will miss at least 10 games or 24 days. Garnet Hathaway is expected to move up to the third line in Panik’s spot.

The Coyotes have acquired Richard Panik and Laurent Dauphin from the Blackhawks for Anthony Duclair and Adam Clendening.

Panik signed a big contract with the Blackhawks ($2.8M AAV) but has yet to replicate last year’s numbers. The 26-year-old winger showed he can put up solid numbers and will likely play a big role in Arizona. He heads to the desert with six goals and 10 assists (16 points) in 37 games this season.
