The Rangers have acquired Alex Wennberg from the Kraken for a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 4th round pick.

Wennberg was a healthy scratch for the Seattle Kraken on Monday with his name circulating trade rumours, claims validated on Wednesday after being dealt to the New York Rangers. The 29-year-old Wennberg is an impending UFA and has seen his production dip in recent years. That said, he registered three points (1G / 2A) and six shots on goal in his last three games.

Wennberg left Thursday's game after taking a puck to the side of the head and is questionable to play Saturday.

Wennberg was bloodied as he left the ice after taking a puck to the side of the head, and his status for Saturday's game vs. Chicago is uncertain. If he's unavailable, expect Jesper Froden to draw into the lineup for him.

The Panthers have signed Alexander Wennebrg to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million.

Wennberg was bought out by the Blue Jackets yesterday but signed a one-year "show me" deal with the Panthers. In Florida, Wennberg has a perfect opportunity to serve as their second line centre and get back to his point producing ways. He has not topped 30 points in two straight seasons but registered a career-high 59 points (13G / 46A) in 2017.

The Blue Jackets have placed Alexander Wennberg on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Wennberg had three years left on a six-year deal that carried a $4.9M AAV cap hit. The former No.14 overall pick (2013) had struggled since posting 59 points in 2017, averaging just five goals and 22 assists (27 points) over the last three seasons. Still, he has enough skill to be a No.2 centre for a team in need and a good enough two-way game to be a third line centre for a team with better depth.

Wennberg is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks with an upper-body injury.

Wennberg was hurt Sunday in Montreal and will miss at least three weeks. Ryan MacInnis was recalled from Cleveland (AHL) on Monday and will take Wennberg's spot in the lineup vs. the Panthers. Wennberg had just started to heat up over the last month and a half, picking up 10 points (3G / 7A) in his last 17 games.
