Valiev has moved around Canada over the last year, going from Toronto to Montreal and then Calgary. The 24-year-old blueliner is a former third-round pick and had four goals and 17 assists (21 points) in 57 AHL games a season ago. Valiev will almost certainly start the 2020 season with Stockton (AHL).
Valiev was drafted No.68 overall in 2014 and spent the first three and a half years of his career in Toronto. The 23-year-old has spent most of his time in the AHL, but has played in 12 NHL contests. Valiev will report to the Stockton Heat (AHL).
Valiev was hurt in his second game with the Canadiens and will miss his second straight game with a lower-body injury. With Valiev out, Brett Lernout is expected to remain in the Canadiens’ lineup.
Valiev, who was acquired in the Tomas Plekanec trade before the deadline, had one assist in one game with Laval (AHL) before being called up to the Canadiens. Valiev will make his Montreal debut on the third pairing with Jordie Benn.
Valiev was a third round pick of the Maple Leafs (No.68 overall) in 2014. The 22-year-old defenseman has picked up five goals and 10 assists (15 points) in 40 games with the Marlies this season.
Valiev, 20, failed to record in his first 10 career NHL games and now he returns to the Marlies where he has 21 points (3G / 18A) in 54 contests.
