Rinat Valiev News

The Flames have re-signed Rinat Valiev to a one-year contract.

Valiev has moved around Canada over the last year, going from Toronto to Montreal and then Calgary. The 24-year-old blueliner is a former third-round pick and had four goals and 17 assists (21 points) in 57 AHL games a season ago. Valiev will almost certainly start the 2020 season with Stockton (AHL).

The Flames have acquired Rinat Valiev and Matt Taormina from the Canadiens for Brett Kulak.

Valiev was drafted No.68 overall in 2014 and spent the first three and a half years of his career in Toronto. The 23-year-old has spent most of his time in the AHL, but has played in 12 NHL contests. Valiev will report to the Stockton Heat (AHL).

The Canadiens have acquired Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel and a 2018 second-round pick from the Maple Leafs for Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun.

Valiev was a third round pick of the Maple Leafs (No.68 overall) in 2014. The 22-year-old defenseman has picked up five goals and 10 assists (15 points) in 40 games with the Marlies this season.

Valiev, 20, was a third round pick (68th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft. The Russian defenseman has picked up 21 points (3G / 18A) in 54 games in his first full-season with the Marlies. He expected to make his NHL debut on Saturday.
