Duncan Keith News

Keith (upper-body) is expected to be back in the Oilers lineup on Tuesday.

Keith missed the last nine games with an upper-body injury that he suffered vs. the Blackhawks on February 9th. Since then, the Oilers have hired a new head coach and have gone 6-3-0. Keith has picked up 14 points (1G / 13A) in 35 games this season.

The Oilers have acquired Duncan Keith and Tim Soderlund from the Blackhawks for Caleb Jones and a 2022 conditional third-round pick.

Keith waived his no-trade clause to facilitate a deal to Edmonton, where he will replace Jones on the left-side of their blueline. Keith, who will turn 38-years-old in a few days, has two more years left on a contract that carries a $5.539M AAV cap-hit. The two-time Norris Trophy winner was last nominated for the award in 2017 and is coming off of a season where he scored four goals with 11 assists (15 points) in 54 games with Chicago. He brings a stabilizing veteran presence to the Oilers top-4 and a Championship pedigree to a team that has struggled in the postseason.

Keith (knee) will be ready for the Blackhawks’ season opener.

Keith made his preseason debut on Tuesday and considers himself “ready to roll” for the regular season. Keith has been careful with his surgically repaired knee, sticking to just one practice when the Blackhawks’ are having two per day. The two-time Norris Trophy winner is coming off of 43 points (9G / 34A) in 67 games a season ago.

Keith returns from his six-game suspension on Friday.

Keith was suspended for six games for slashing Charlie Coyle in the face and he returns to the Blachawks' lineup with his team down 1-0 in the series. Chicago went 3-3 during the six games that Keith was suspended for. Erik Gustafsson is expected to come out of the lineup for Keith.
