The Senators have signed Matthew Peca to a one-year, two-way contract.

Peca has been a fringe NHLer for a few years now but only played 14 games with Montreal and Ottawa in 2020. He spent most of the season in Laval (AHL) where he had just 13 points (4G / 9A) in 34 games. The hard-working, industrious winger will likely start 2021 in the AHL but would be a candidate to get promoted to the Senators' fourth line when injuries hit.

The Senators have acquired Matthew Peca from the Canadiens for Aaron Luchuk and a 2020 seventh-round pick.

Originally a seventh-round pick of the Lightning in 2011, Peca has 17 points in 64 career NHL games, spread across four different seasons. The 26-year-old failed to register a point in the five games he played for the Habs this season and had just four goals and nine assists in 34 games with Laval (AHL).

Peca (lower-body) is questionable to play Wednesday.

Peca was forced to leave Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh with a lower-body injury and may not play vs. the Senators. The fact that the Canadiens recalled Ryan Poehling from Laval (AHL) this morning, suggests that Peca won't be available.
