Hischier (upper-body) has been activated off injured reserve and will play against the Sabres on Saturday.

Hischier has not played since exiting October 27th's game against the Sabres following an illegal check to the head by Connor Clifton. New Jersey's captain had endured a slow start prior to the injury, registering just two goals and zero assists in his opening seven games. He'll return to centre the Devils' second line tonight.

Nico Hischier (upper body) will remain out Wednesday vs. Detroit after skating in full in practice.

Hischier skated for his second full practice on Tuesday but will not play Wednesday as New Jersey heads to Detroit. The 24-year-old center has missed the Devils' previous nine games but is expected to practice again Wednesday. He has two goals, 14 SOG, four PIMs and a -2 plus/minus in seven games prior to his injury last month.

Nico Hischier (upper body) returned to Devils' practice Monday.

Hischier, who has missed nine games since suffering an upper-body injury on October 27th, seems to be nearing his return to the Devils' lineup. Before his injury, he was off to a slow start this season, scoring only two points (2G / 0A) in seven games, playing most commonly alongside Ondrej Palat on Jesper Bratt.

Nico Hischier (upper-body) will not play on Sunday against the Minnesota Wild.

Hischier was hit in the head by Connor Clifton of the Buffalo Sabres on Friday before exiting the game with only 11:11 time-on-ice. Clifton was issued a match penalty on the play. Hischier, whose status beyond Sunday is still unknown, has been off to a slow start this season, tallying only two points (0G / 2A) through seven games.

Nico Hischier
Nico Hischier (upper body) will be available to play Tuesday vs. Montreal.

Hischier left the Devils' previous game vs. the New York Islanders early in the third period after just 13:20 TOI due to an upper-body injury but will return to the Devils' lineup Tuesday vs. Montreal. The 24-year-old star has surprisingly failed to pick up a point in any of his four games played in 2023-24, but he has seven SOG, two PIMs, and a +1 plus/minus. He will return to the Devils' second line and first powerplay unit.

Nico Hischier
Nico Hischier (upper body) was a full participant in Monday morrnings skate.

Hischier left the Devils' game early on Friday after suffering an upper-body injury but was back at practice as a full participant on Monday morning. This is a good indication that Hischier won't miss any more time and will slide back into his usual spot on the second line. He has zero points, seven shots, and four hits in four games this season.

Hischier (hamstring) practised on Tuesday but remains questionable for the season opener.

The Devils' captain remains questionable for their opening game Thursday in Philadelphia as he returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since September 26th, 2022. Hischier enjoyed his most successful season in 2021-22 finishing with 21 goals and 60 points in 70 games placing him second on the Devils in scoring. The 23-year-old should find himself a lock in New Jersey's top-six and atop their first powerplay unit.

Nico Hischier
Hischier has a hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated in 10 days.

Hischier suffered the injury on Thursday and will be re-evaluated a few days before the Devils' season starts. This would be a huge loss for the Devils to open the season, and it would thrust either Erik Haula or Dawson Mercer into an elevated role.

Nico Hischier
Hischier (lower-body) is questionable to play Saturday vs. the Ducks.

Hischier has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury and skated by himself before Saturday's morning skate, leaving him questionable to play Saturday. It seems unlikely that he'll be back in the lineup but monitor his status when the Devils hit the ice for warmups at 6:30 PM ET.
