Erik Brannstrom (concussion) will be out indefinitely.

Brannstrom's injury comes with news that fellow defenseman Thomas Chabot will be out 4-6 weeks due to a fractured hand, seriously draining the Senators' defensive core. In seven games this season, Brannstrom has zero points, nine shots, four penalty minutes, and a +1 plus/minus rating. Expect the Senators to make a call-up for their depleted blue line.

The Senators signed Erik Brannstrom to a one-year deal worth $2.0 million.

The 2023 season was Brannstrom's first full NHL season, scoring two goals with 16 assists (18 points) in 74 games. Brannstrom is a quality offensive-defenseman but it will be hard for him to carve out a significant role with Thomas Chabot, Jakob Chychrun and Jake Sanderson ahead of him on the depth chart.

Erik Brannstrom will not play Thursday vs. the Washington Capitals (leg).

Brannstrom has three assists, 33 SOG and is a -1 plus/minus through 32 games this season but will be forced to miss his first contest of the year as he is considered day-to-day with a leg injury. Brannstrom will be hoping he does not miss a lot of time after a hand injury took 29 games from him due to injury in 2021-22.

Brannstom (undisclosed) will be back in the Senators lineup on Wednesday.

Brannstrom missed the last four games with an undisclosed injury but will be back in the Senators lineup Wednesday vs. the Maple Leafs. The young defensemen will get back in on the third-pair and should see some PP2 time as well. So far this season, he has one assist and three shots in three games.

Brannstrom is expected to make his season debut on Thursday.

Brannstrom was promoted from the AHL to the taxi squad on Wednesday and will likely be moved to the active roster prior to Thursday's game in Montreal. Brannstrom skated with Erik Gudbranson in Thursday's morning skate and will likely play on PP2 as well. The 21-year-old defenseman has four assists in 33 career NHL games.
