James Neal News

The Blues have placed James Neal (undisclosed) on IR.

Neal has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury and the move to IR means he'll be out until at least next Monday. They used the roster spot to recall Dakota Joshua, who may suit up as the 12th forward after going 11 forwards and seven defensemen yesterday.

Neal (undisclosed) will not play on Wednesday.

Neal was on the ice for the start of the morning skate but left early as he's tending to an undisclosed injury. According to head coach Craig Berube, Neal tweaked something that had been bothering him previously, so it doesn't sound like he'll be out long-term.

The Blues have signed James Neal to a one-year contract.

Neal was in Blues' training camp on a PTO and earned a contract by leading them with four goals in four preseason games. Neal is expected to open the season on the Blues' third line with Robert Thomas and Vladimir Tarasenko. The veteran winger had just five goals and five assists (10 points) in 29 games with the Oilers a season ago.

The Oilers have placed James Neal on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.

Neal was headed into the fourth year of a five-year contract that carried a $5.75M AAV cap-hit. The buy-out will save the Oilers $3.833M against the cap for the next two seasons but will cost them $1.917M in 2024 and 2025. Neal had 41 points (24G / 17A) in 84 games during his two seasons with Edmonton.

Neal will draw back into the Oilers lineup on Thursday.

Neal has been a healthy scratch for the last two games but will replace Kyle Turris in the lineup on Friday. Neal, who has two goals and one assist this season, will be on the fourth line and should see some power-play time as well.

Neal will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday.

Despite scoring two goals in the win on Sunday, Neal will come out of the lineup on Tuesday. The Oilers will go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen, so look for Evan Bouchard to replace Neal in the lineup and Alex Chiasson to play on PP1.

Neal (COVID-19) has been activated from IR and is expected to make his season debut on Friday.

Neal missed the first four games of the season but is expected to skate on the fourth line and top power-play unit Friday in Toronto. Neal had 19 goals and 12 assists (31 points) in 55 games a season ago.

Neal (ankle) will return to the Oilers lineup on Tuesday.

Neal has been out since January 29th with an ankle injury but will play tonight in Dallas. There's no word on how the lines will shake out but it seems highly likely that Neal will skate on the top line with Connor McDavid. Neal has 19 goals and 10 assists (29 points) in 50 games this season.

The Oilers have acquired James Neal from the Flames for Milan Lucic and a conditional 2020 third round pick.

The Alberta rivals swap bad contracts. Going to Edmonton is James Neal, who has four years left with a $5.75M cap-hit. The Oilers are retaining 12.5 percent ($750K) of Lucic’s AAV which means they are taking on an additional $500K AAV in cap-space in this trade. Neal struggled mightily in his first season with the Flames, posting just 19 points (7G / 12A) in 63 games. With so few talented wingers in Edmonton, Neal should see consistent top-6 minutes—at least to start the year.

Neal is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Neal is set to miss his third straight game on Wednesday and is expected to miss a few weeks with a lower-body injury that he suffered in Florida last Thursday. Austin Czarnik has receded a goal in each game since replacing Neal in the lineup.

Neal (upper-body) will not play Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Neal was forced to leave Thursday’s game in Florida with an upper-body injury and will not play Saturday against his former team. Neal had been heating up recently, scoring one goal with six assists (seven points) in his last 12 games.
