Zetterberg (head) is expected to play next Wednesday vs. New York.

Zetterberg joined his teammates on the ice late in the Red Wings morning skate, but was just taking things easy. Zetterberg (head) will not play tonight vs. the Ducks

Zetterberg was listed as doubtful for tonight’s game because of a head injury. He was ruled out by coach Mike Babcock when the time arrived at the rink. With Zetty out, Joakim Andersson will enter the lineup. Consider Zetterberg day-to-day, but it seems unlikely that he will be available tomorrow either.

Zetterberg (head) is doubtful for Monday says GM Ken Holland.

The Red Wings did not have a morning skate on Monday, but their GM called Zetterberg doubtful because of a “head” injury that he suffered on Saturday vs. the Stars. Zetty took a couple of blows to the head from Jamie Benn, so the immediate concern is that the Red Wings captain suffered a concussion. Doubtful doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t play tonight, so monitor his status during pre-game warmups.

Zetterberg left Saturday’s game with an upper-body injury and did not return.

Zetterberg played just 11:24 before retiring to the locker room with an upper-body injury. There was no word on how serious the injury is, but the Red Wings will keep their fingers crossed that they don’t lose their captain for an extended period of time. The Wings went on to win 7-6 in OT without Zetty.

Zetterberg has told the team that he will join the first part of practice Tuesday, nearly eight weeks after undergoing back surgery.

Zetterberg will not play when the first-round series against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins begins Friday, nor will he be available for Game 2 on Easter Sunday. That much already has been determined, general manager Ken Holland said. Zetterberg, even provided that he has no setbacks, isn't likely to be available until the second round.

Zetterberg (back) skated a little a bit by himself this week, the first time he's been on the ice since the Olympic opener for Sweden on February 12.

Zetterberg had back surgery on February 21. While skating is a positive sign in Zetty's return to the ice, the Red Wings are still unsure when he will be back. At the time of surgery, the original timetable was eight weeks, which would see him return around game 4 of the first-round. They will not be able to pinpoint a date until Zetterberg is able to push himself in full team practices.
