Smyth has played most of 14 of his 18 year career with Edmonton. The 38-year-old was drafted sixth overall in the 1994 NHL Draft and went on to score 386 goals and 456 assists (842 points) in 1,269 regular season games. Smyth also had 59 points in 93 playoff games, but never won a Stanley Cup. He came close in 2005-06, but the Oilers were downed by the Hurricanes in the finals. He won six gold medals while representing Team Canada. One at the Olympics (2002), two World Championships (2003/2004), one World Cup (2004), and one at the World Juniors (1995) and at the 2012 Spengler Cup. Happy Retirement Captain Canada.

Smyth missed Tuesday's contest but could return tonight. He did not skate on Wednesday, so ever if he does not play tonight, it is a good sign that he is back on the ice this morning.

Smyth has missed the last six games after scoring three times and adding an assist in his first eight games. He was skating on Edmonton's second line with Sam Gagner and Nail Yakupov. Monitor the veteran's status tomorrow.

Tyler Pitlick who was recalled yesterday, will slot in on the third line in Smyth's absence.

Smyth's availability for tomorrow's games with the Habs is unknown. Tyler Pitlick has been recalled and would slide into the lineup if Smyth can't go.

The 37-year-old Smyth has struggled through two games this season. He has just one scoring chance and is a dreadful minus-5. He takes a seat and former Toronto Marlie, Ryan Hamilton enters the lineup.

Chris Vande Velde will draw back into the lineup in Smyth's spot.

Smyth moves up to the top line. He has 19 goals and 46 points in 77 games.

Smyth moves from the top line to the third. He has 17 goals and 40 points in 63 games.

Smyth gets another crack at a scoring line. The veteran left wing has 16 goals and 36 points in 52 games. One would imagine he has a better chance at being productive on the second unit.

Smyth gets bumped down to the third line for tomorrow's game. In his return tour of Edmonton, the veteran has 16 goals and 34 points in 51 games.

Look for Smyth to play on the Belanger line to start tonight's game. The veteran is enjoying a rebound season with 16 goals and 34 points through 49 games. Expect him to play with more life after resting during the break.

When Hall returns, expect Smyth to get demoted to the third line. The Banff, Alberta native has 12 goals and 26 points through his 30-game return tour of Edmonton.

Smyth moves down to the second line after not scoring for six games. If you thought the power forward would score 40 goals, you will be disappointed at the end of the season.

Smyth moves up to the top line to play with two talented youngsters. The Alberta native currently leads the team in goals (10) and points (8).

Smyth avoids the 'Shanaban' following his elbow to the face of Chris Kunitz. Feel free to roll him out in any standard leagues, if you were planning on starting him.
