With Marco Scandella out, the Wild have promoted 25-year-old blue liner Jon Blum. He has 16 points (4G / 12A) in 29 games with Iowa this season. He is expected to play in his second game of the season with the Wild tonight.
Blum will slide into the lineup tonight in Detroit because Clayton Stoner did not make the trip after suffering an injury yesterday. Blum has no points in his first four games with the Wild this season. However, in Iowa he has seven goals and 22 assists (29 points) which is tied for second on the team in scoring.
Blum recorded no points and two shots in four games with the Wild. He will return to Iowa and play tonight and could find himself recalled shortly. However this could also suggest that Jared Spurgeon is nearing activation from IR.

Blum has tallied 17 points (4G / 13A) in 31 games this season with Iowa. He is tied for first on the team in scoring and power-play goals with four. Blum has recorded 22 points (7G / 15A) and 20 PIMs in 91 career NHL games during three seasons with Nashville.
The blueliner has 16 points (3G / 13A) in 29 games in Iowa this season. The Wild signed him as a free agent this summer. Blum collected seven points (1G / 6A) and six penalty minutes in 35 games with the Nashville Predators last season.
It’s unclear who will come out of Nashville’s lineup to make room for Blum, though by practice lines it seemed Ellis was the odd defenseman out.
Blum was serving as the seventh/eighth defender and heads back to the minors to stay fresh.
Blum has three goals and seven points over 33 games with a minus-14 rating. The rookie has struggled at both ends of the ice.
Blum scored two goals in as many games while in the AHL, regaining his scoring touch. Expect him to slot back into the lineup shortly.
The young d-man didn't get much use as a spare defender and will go back to the AHL in order to regain confidence.
Blum has only two goals and five points through 27 games. Taking a seat could be the kick-start he needs.
