Mark Dekanich News

Dekanich had surgery earlier this week to repair a torn ligament or tendon in his right ankle, Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson confirmed to The Dispatch. He will miss the rest of the season.

Earlier in the season there was hope Dekanich would take the starting goalie gig away from Steve Mason. He played only five games at the AHL level.

#CBJ G Mark Dekanich suffered another ankle injury, coach Todd Richards said. Had no further details.

Doesn't sound like we will see Dekanich in a Blue Jackets uniform this season at this rate. The expected backup has yet to make his debut with his new team.

#CBJ brass and Springfield coaches will discuss early next week a specific timetable for G Mark Dekanich's debut. He's getting close.

When fully healthy, Dekanich should be inserted into the starter mix. He still has not made a rehab start in Springfield.

According to #CBJ G Mark Dekanich's twitter feed - @dexshow - he's off to join AHL Springfield today to 'do work.'

Look for Dekanich to take the maximum two weeks for his conditioning stint. He should then challenge Curtis Sanford or Steve Mason for a starting gig.

There was a brief update on goaltender Mark Dekanich, who remains in Columbus for the time being to have his progress monitored by team doctors. Once he’s ready to face shots and get back into practice mode, he will do so in Springfield where he was assigned for a conditioning assignment.

Despite all the setbacks the rookie has had he still may be in the mix for some starts in Columbus. Dekanich still needs to get healthy and needs to prove himself at the AHL level.

#CBJ G Mark Dekanich is skating, too. Plan now is for him, once healthy, to go to AHL and play for extended amount of time, prove his health

With Curtis Sanford and Steve Mason both healthy, the Blue Jackets don't need to rush Dekanich back into the picture. The rookie goaler has yet to play a single game this season, getting hurt during his conditioning stint.

#CBJ GM Scott Howson says Mark Dekanich's groin injury is not a day-to-day injury. "It could be 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 or 4 ... we're not sure."

Barring a trade, Curtis Sanford and Allen York look like the options as backup goalie. Dekanich was expected to compete with Steve Mason for the starting goalie position but those plans have been setback.

Mark Dekanich strained his groin in warm up in Springfield tonight and will not play. Will know more on severity of the injury tomorrow.

Dekanich had a setback and likely will not be recalled to backup Steve Mason. Curtis Sanford certainly could benefit from a longer absence.

#CBJ G Mark Dekanich will be assigned to Springfield later today, will make first rehab start on Friday.

Expect him to make at least one rehab start before getting called back up. In the meantime, it looks like Steve Mason will start every game for the Blue Jackets.

#CBJ G Mark Dekanich will likely make rehab starts next week, GM Scott Howson said. Light schedule for both #CBJ and AHL Springfield.

Dekanich likely plays in the AHL at the end of next week and then returns shortly after to the Blue Jackets.

RT @alombs: @Aportzline Any update on Dekanich? / Traveling w club, but didn't take morning skate. Looking at AHL rehab starts soon.

Expect a demotion coming within the next week or two to get Dekanich back in game shape. Once he returns, he is expected to challenge Steve Mason for the starting goalie job.

Dekanich might be weeks away from making his Jackets debut.

Dekanich probably gets used as soon as he is healthy since starting goalie Steve Mason has had no breaks this season. The product of Colgate University won 23 of his 43 games played, posting a 2.02 GAA and .931 SV% while with Milwaukee last season. He could steal some starts from Mason eventually.

Goaltender Mark Dekanich, expected to be Steve Mason's back-up, will miss at least one month with a high-ankle sprain suffered in the first period of Tuesday's 5-1 exhibition win over Winnipeg in Nationwide Arena.

With Dekanich injured, expect Steve Mason to play even more games. The 25-year-old posted excellent numbers with the Milwaukee Admirals last season -- 2.03 GAA, .931 SV% -- but will need to stay healthy in order to make an impact at the NHL level. Look for Curtis Sanford to backup Mason as long as Dekanich remains sidelined.

Neither RW Tomas Kubalik (head) nor G Mark Dekanich (lower body) skated today.

No word on the extent of Dekanich's injury. The 25-year-old posted excellent numbers with the Milwaukee Admirals last season -- 2.03 GAA, .931 SV% -- but will need to stay healthy in order to make an impact at the NHL level. If he can't play, look for Curtis Sanford to backup Steve Mason.
