Wideman will not be in the lineup on Saturday.

WIdeman had one goal and six shots while averaging 19:56 though the first two games of the season. There is no word on if Wideman is battling an injury or if he is a healthy scratch, but he will come out of the lineup regardless. Brett Kulak will take his spot in the lineup.

Wideman has had his suspension reduced to 10 games; eligible to play on Friday.

Wideman was set to sit out for the 19th of his 20 game suspension on Friday, but his suspension was reduced to 10 games, which will only save him money and could see him return tonight vs. the Coyotes. Wideman has 19 points (2G / 17A) in 48 games this season.

The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Dennis Wideman to a five-year, $26.25 million contract after acquiring his rights from the Washington Capitals in exchange for blueliner Jordan Henry and a 2013 fifth-round draft pick.

Wideman finished in the top 10 among defencemen with 46 points, including 11 goals. He led all Capitals blueliners with 113 hits and 132 blocked shots.

Dennis Wideman's “charley horse” in the preseason seemed like cause for concern. The Capitals defenseman did miss the final month of play last season with right leg hematoma and compartment syndrome. Wideman told reporters not to worry, because it was in the other leg. But he has been knocked around in camp and left Wednesday's practice early while teammates were doing sprints.

Last March, it was a seemingly innocent collision with the Hurricanes' Tuomo Ruutu that ended Dennis Wideman's season. It didn't look terribly bad at the time, but Wideman left with a leg injury that turned into hematoma and compartment syndrome.
