Sheahan was assigned to Rochester of the AHL after failing to pick up any points in two games for Buffalo, with four PIMs while averaging only 8:19 TOI. He heads back to Rochester (AHL) where he had three assists in six games prior to being called up to Buffalo previously.
Sheehan will make his season debut Tuesday after being recalled from Rochester of the AHL. In six games with the Sabres' minor-league affiliate, the 31-year-old veteran has three assists and is a +3 plus/minus prior to his call-up. He currently sits on 194 points (74G/120A) through 635 career NHL games played.
Sheahan has been dealing with an injury throughout the pre-season and will open the year on injured reserve. Once healthy, Sheahan will battle with Zemgus Girgensons, Rasmus Asplund and Vinnie Hinostroza for playing time.
Sheahan would have been in line to play Saturday with Yanni Gourde going on the COVID-19 protocol list, but he joins Gourde. Alexander True has been called up from the AHL and figures to be in on the fourth line.
Sheahan was hurt midway through Tuesday's game in Boston and will not be available for Thursday's game. With Sheahan out, Tobias Rieder will draw back into the Sabres lineup.
Sheahan was in Sabres camp on a PTO but signed Friday after the news of Zemgus Girgensons being out for the season. Sheahan spent the 2020 season with the Oilers, collecting eight goals and seven assists (15 points) in 66 games. Sheahan will likely open the 2021 season on the fourth line and will help replace Girgensons on the penalty kill.

He never developed like the Red Wings had hoped, posting a career-high of just 36 points, so look for him to settle in as the Oilers No.4 centre in 2020.
Sheahan was acquired from the Red Wings early in the season, and scored 11 goals with 21 assists (32 points) in 73 games with the Penguins. Sheahan posted a horrible -6.0 relative Corsi with the Penguins, but earned another season with them. He will likely serve as their No.4 centre with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Derick Brassard ahead of him on the depth chart.
