Roberto Luongo announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday.

Luongo ends a fantastic career ranked second in NHL history in games played (1,044), third in wins (489) and ninth in shutouts. Luongo was originally drafted No.4 overall by the Islanders in 1997 but appeared in just 24 games with them—he went on to pay 572 with Florida and 448 with Vancouver.

Luongo will start Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Luongo allowed three goals on 33 shots in the Panthers loss to the Senators on Sunday. Luongo has lost three straight games while allowing a combined 11 goals on 109 shots (.899 SV%). Tonight he faces the Penguins for the third time this season—he is 1-1-0 with a 3.86 GAA and .872 SV% in the first two meetings of the season.

Luongo will start Tuesday vs. the Stars.

Luongo gave up two goals on 11 shots after replacing James Reimer in the Panthers loss to the Lightning on Sunday. The veteran netminder has not faced the Stars this season but comes into play at 7-3-1 with a 2.45 GAA, .915 SV% and one shutout on home-ice this season.

Luongo will start Thursday vs. the Penguins.

Luongo allowed three goals on 25 shots in the Panthers loss to the Predators last Friday. Luongo has played better as of late, winning two of his last three while stopping 69 of the 75 shots (.920 SV%) that he faced. In his first start against the Penguins, Luongo was pulled after giving up four goals on 16 shots in a 5-1 loss (Jan.8).
