A trio of Devils top the DF Fantasy Team of the Week

A trio of Devils top the DF Fantasy Team of the Week

Another week of this shortened season is behind us. Isn’t it crazy that for some teams 1/4 of the regular season is already over. And for fantasy purposes almost 1/3 of the season is over. If you have some of these players on your team you are probably lucky enough to not be sitting at 0-3 right now. For teams that are 0-3 a roster shakeup could be necessary because with the shortened schedule there is no time to sit back and wait for your team to pick it up, you need results fast! Anyways as for the DailyFaceoff Fantasy Team of the Week, remember this team will be based off of your usual fantasy scoring categories and players that were great across the board. Skaters – (G, A, +/-, SOG, GWG, SHG and PPP) Goalies (Wins, GAA, SV% and Shutouts.)

C – Jamie Benn – Dallas Stars

Benn got off to a slow start after a contract holdout recording only 1 assist in the first 4 games. However this week in the Stars 3 games he was fantastic. With Ray Whitney going down with an injury the Stars had to shuffle their lines up a bit and Benn is now centering Brenden Morrow and Jaromir Jagr. With his new line-mates beside him Benn recorded 4 G, 2 A, and a +4 with 2 of his goals being game winners. Benn also had 1 of his 6 points come on the power-play and he threw a healthy 11 shots on goal. Morrow and Jagr each had strong weeks as well. They both had 1 G and 2 A while Morrow was a +3 and Jagr was a +4 with a GWG.

LW – Patrik Elias – New Jersey Devils

Elias is one of the most consistent players on a year-to-year basis in fantasy and it is because he plays on a solid Devils team and he can post weeks like the one he just had. The return of Adam Henrique to the Devils helped David Clarkson and Elias as their line was clicking last week. Elias had 1 G, 6 A and was a +4 in 4 games, with 4 of his 7 points coming on the PP. Henrique and Clarkson were on the recieving end of those 6 assists notching 4 (Clarkson) and 3 (Henrique) goals respectively.

RW – Patrick Kane – Chicago Blackhawks

Kane was on fire this past week, he had 10 shots on goal in 3 games but of those 10 shots he managed to score 5 goals. A 50% shooting percentage isn’t too shabby. He also added 1 A and was a +3 with a GWG and 2 PPP. After Sunday Kane was second in the NHL in points with 19, and the way the Blackhawks have been playing I don’t see Kane slowing down anytime soon.

D – Sheldon Souray – Anaheim Ducks

Unfortunately I experienced Souray’s great week first-hand as he beat up on me in one of my leagues. Souray looks like he is in his 20’s again and playing like he is a member of the 2006-07 Montreal Canadiens when he recorded 26 G and 38 A for 64 PTS in 81 games. Souray and his D-partner Francois Beauchemin were excellent last week. They each were a +6 with 3 points. Souray notched 2 G both of which turned out to be game-winners and had 1 A. Souray now has a solid 7 points in 11 games.

D – Andy Greene – New Jersey Devils

Greene probably wasn’t drafted in the majority of leagues but the people who picked him up recently were rewarded last week. Greene had 1 G and it was the game-winner, 4 A and a +3. Of his 5 points 4 of them came on the power-play, which is earning him more PP looks every night with his new-found scoring touch.

G – Martin Brodeur – New Jersey

There is not much I can say about Brodeur that has not been said 100 times before. He is arguably the greatest goalie of all-time and even at 40 years-old he is playing at a high-level and has the New Jersey Devils sitting on top of the Eastern Conference. Brodeur won all three of his starts this past week with an awesome 1.33 GAA and .942 SV%. Brodeur has been excellent thus far and is a good #1 fantasy option and should be used as such.
