Andrew Cogliano and Edmonton Oilers agree to terms

Andrew Cogliano defines speed.  He broke the speed record at the AHL All Star game (later taken by Bobby Sanguinetti) and has already played three full 82 game seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. At 23-years-old he recently signed a one-year, one-way and one million dollar contract.

Nicholas Cotsonika of Yahoo! Sports recently wrote on Cogliano’s new role with the team as they adapt to the additions of Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall and Magnus Pääjärvi-Svensson.  Both he and the team feel he could contribute on a top two line and help lead this team to a championship.

Honestly, the Oilers need to prove they can be a contender before the League starts handing them rings.

Hardly anyone on the team managed to stay healthy, which could lead to more problems this season.  Cogliano experienced career lows despite an increase in shots and PIMs.  The team expects him to bounce back, but his ceiling probably tops out at 50 points until the rest of the team actually become more of a supporting cast.  His contract is a nice bargain for the Oilers, so the young Cogliano should be out to prove his worth to the team this season and prove better than his measly 28 points of last year.
