Blackhawks Acquire Campoli to Replace Hendry

Earlier today the Chicago Blackhawks suffered a loss to their blue line with Jordan Hendry expected to miss time with a serious knee injury. After finding this information out at essentially the 23rd hour, the team quickly made a move for a defenseman, acquiring Chris Campoli from the Ottawa Senators.

In Campoli, the Blackhawks get a puck-moving defenseman who the Senators once had high hopes for. Traded for a first round pick back in 2009, Campoli struggled to produce the past two seasons, hitting only 18 point last year and 14 points this season through 58 games. With the Sens rebuilding and players like Andre Benoit, Patrick Weircioch, David Rundblad and Jared Cowen ready to step in, Campoli was on borrowed time in Ottawa. The re-signing of Chris Phillips essentially put the writing on the wall for next season.

Chicago sent a conditional 2nd round pick as well as Ryan Potulny to the Senators in the deal, which helps Bryan Murray and company further stockpile assets for their future. It also helps the Sens fill their roster for the remainder of the year, especially if they prefer to keep some of their prospects in the AHL for more seasoning.

Senators: Yesterday, the club re-assigned Corey Locke, Colin Greening and Roman Wick to the AHL. One of those three likely stay down with Potulny drawing into the lineup.
