Brayden Point records fastest hat trick in 27 years

Brayden Point did something incredible for the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday evening against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The speedy 22-year-old forward scored a natural hat trick in a span of 1:31 at PPG Paints Arena. It was also his first career NHL hat trick.

Point scored his first goal with 2.7 seconds remaining in the first period before scoring the next two goals in the first 88 seconds of the second period. All three tallies were scored on the power play.

According to Sportsnet Stats, it’s the fastest hat trick scored in the NHL since Derek King of the New York Islanders potted three goals in a span of 1:18 in 1991.

Point’s three goals are the 6th-fastest three goals by a player in NHL history and the 2nd-fastest by a player in the expansion era (since 1967-68).

The young forward has been a beast this season, recording 12 goals and 22 points in 18 games. With Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos carrying the load on the first line, Point has been the perfect complimentary piece in the second-line center role.
