Bruins Acquire Johansson from Devils

The Bruins barely beat the clock, acquiring Marcus Johansson from the New Jersey Devils just minutes before Monday’s trade deadline. In exchange for Johansson, New Jersey receives a 2019 second-round pick and a 2020 fourth-round pick. New Jersey will also retain 40% of Johansson’s remaining salary.

The no.24-overall pick in the 2009 draft, Johansson was acquired by the Devils in July 2017 from the Washington Capitals. Johansson was fresh off a career year in 2016-17 that saw him register 24 goals and 34 assists in a full 82 games. A pair of concussions limited the 28-year-old to 25 games last season when he compiled just 14 points. Johansson has bounced back admirably this year, picking up 12 goals and 15 assists in 48 games. He is set to become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1. Johansson should provide the Bruins with some of the depth scoring they’ve been searching for. His first chance to make his Bruins debut will come Tuesday at home against the Sharks.
