Bruins Lose Another: Savard Breaks Foot

Savard
Earlier this week Bruins winger Milan Lucic was placed on IR with a broken index finger and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.  Now Bruins leading scorer Marc Savard will join him after breaking his foot.  Savard is expected to miss 4-6 weeks as well. Savard, who has four goals and three assists, has led the Bruins in scoring the last three years, and did not miss a game last season.  This is a huge hit to fantasy owners of Savard, but thankfully he is only expected to miss 6 weeks. Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci should both see an increase in ice-time and powerplay opportunity for the Bruins making them potential players that can fill your void at center until Savard returns

Other centers from around the league that you might want to consider picking up are Mike Comrie, Derick Brassard, Tim Connolly, Patrik Elias (expected to return soon), Patrick Sharp, Brandon Dubinsky, or Brendan Morrison (playing with Ovechkin). Of course there are better centers, but I’m assuming they aren’t available.

Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar sustained an undisclosed injury during the game against the St. Louis Blues last night and did not come out for the third period.  There has been lots of unofficial news that he has a broken wrist. An official announcement is coming this afternoon. Stay tuned.
