Caps’ Michal Neuvirth out with a lower-body injury

Washington Capitals rookie netminder Michal Neuvirth reportedly has a lower-body “tweak” according to Corey Masisak of CSN. Coach Bruce Boudreau is listing Neuvirth as “day-to-day”.

Neuvirth was expected to be the starter on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils, but due to the morning skate “tweak”, Braden Holtby was called upon to start.  Semyon Varlamov was recalled from the Hershey Bears and arrived as the back up for Holtby during the second period of a 5-0 blowout loss to the Devils.

If you’ve been following the Varlamov injury bug, you’ll note that Varlamov was with the Bears on a conditioning stint after recovering from his latest injury and has played in back-to-back games over the weekend.

The Capitals play at Carolina on Wednesday, so we should know more information fairly quickly.  Keep checking back.
