We will highlight injuries affecting today’s games, hot streaks, cold streaks, and anything relevant for everyone from the casual hockey fan to the Fantasy Hockey grinder.

Capitals double up on New Jersey behind big Lindgren performance

Charlie Lindgren stopped 37 of 40 shots (.925 SV%) to steal a 6-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

New Jersey more than doubled Washington’s shots on goal but was let down but a rough five-goal performance from Mackenzie Blackwood (.722 SV%). The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Devils. Five Capital players ended the game with multiple points, Nick Jensen, Aliaksei Protas, and Garnet Hathaway each had a goal and an assist, while Dylan Strome and Lars Eller each got two assists in the win. Alex Ovechkin scored (3) and added a game-high five SOG. Nathan Bastian (1), Tomas Tatar (1) and Jesper Bratt (1) all picked up their first goals of the year for New Jersey, while John Marino added two assists as the lone Devils’ skater to finish with multiple points.

Senators beat up on Stars in battle of the backups

Magnus Hellberg stopped 29 of 31 shots (.935 SV%) to earn his first victory as a member of the Ottawa Senators as they handed the Dallas Stars their first regulation of the season. Shane Pinto continued his hot streak, scoring in his fifth straight game (5), while Derick Brassard (1), Thomas Chabot (1) and Brady Tkachuk (5) also tallied goals for the Senators. Tkachuk picked up his 10th point in five games to open 2022-23 and is now tied for third in league scoring. Scott Wedgewood was the losing goalie allowing four goals on 32 shots (.875 SV%) in his second loss of the season. Wyatt Johnston (2) and Joel Kiviranta (2) had the two goals for the Stars.

Oilers top Penguins in high-scoring showdown

The Oilers fell behind 3-1 but stormed back with five unanswered goals, including four in the second period. Jack Campbell stopped 31 of 34 shots in his second straight 30-plus save effort as Edmonton handled the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Monday. They had a scare when Connor McDavid left the game after crashing into the net.

He immediately went to the dressing room but did not miss a shift. Leon Draisaitl led all scorers with a goal (3) and two assists, while Evander Kane led all skaters with nine SOG to go along with a goal (2) and assist. Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each had multiple points, recording a goal and an assist. Rickard Rakell scored a powerplay goal (3) and added an assist as Jason Zucker joined him as the other Penguin to have multiple points with his two-assist effort. Tristan Jarry lost his first game of the season after allowing six goals on 47 shots (.872 SV%) in the losing effort.

Hellebuyck blank Blues at home in comfortable victory

The St.Louis Blues only got 25 shots toward Connor Hellebuyck as he earned his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 Winnipeg win. Mark Scheifele (4), Sam Gagner (3), Morgan Barron (1) and Cole Perfetti (2) scored the goals for the Jets, while Josh Morrissey finished as the only player with multiple points in the game with his two assists. Thomas Greiss played well in his first action of the season, stopping 39 of 42 shots (.929 SV%) in the loss.

Big third period pushes Vegas past Toronto

Logan Thompson continued his hot run to start the season as he stopped 22 of 23 shots to easily handle the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-1 Golden Knights win Monday. On the night that Phil Kessel tied Keith Yandle for the all-time Ironman streak, it looked like he opened the scoring with his 400th career NHL goal; however, it was called back for an offside.

Shortly after, he picked up an assist on the game’s opening goal. Chandler Stephenson (3), Nicolas Roy (1) and Michael Amadio (1) scored goals for Vegas, with Jack Eichel leading all skaters with six SOG in a pointless performance. Ilya Samsonov took his first loss as a member of the Maple Leafs (4-1-0) after allowing three goals on 33 shots (.909 SV%). William Nylander had the lone goal (4) for the Maple Leaf bringing his early point totals to seven (4G/3A) in seven games. Nicholas Roberston led all forwards with three blocked shots while collecting his first assist of the season and third point (2G/1A) in as many games.

Hurricanes hand injured Canucks seventh straight loss

It was announced before the game that Quinn Hughes is week-to-week and Brock Boeser is day-to-day, leaving the Canucks shorthanded vs. the Hurricanes. Vancouver outdid their previous ugly performances by getting a season-low 16 shots on Frederik Andersen (.875 SV%) as they lost their seventh straight game to open the season. The Hurricanes got on the board early as Andrei Svechnikov scored his league-leading seventh goal.

Sebastian Aho (4) and Jesper Fast (1) added third-period goals to push the Hurricanes ahead of the Canucks. Thatcher Demko was busy all night, doing his best to keep the Canucks in the game with a 36-save (.923 SV%) performance. J.T. Miller responded loudly to his early season criticism scoring the Canucks’ only two goals (3,4) to go along with four hits as he moved to the wing on a line with Bo Horvat.
