Marchand returns in a big way as Bruins easily handle Red Wings

Brad Marchand could not have drawn up a better return from offseason surgery than his two powerplay goals (1,2) and an assist as Boston beat the Red Wings easily 5-1 at home.

Jeremy Swayman enjoyed a much-needed bounce-back win stopping 28 of 29 shots (.966 SV%) for his second win of the season. David Pastrnak also appreciated the return of Marchand, collecting a goal (6) and two assists to bring his league lead to 15 points (6G/9A) in eight games. Hampus Lindholm and Derek Forbort were the other Bruins to end with multiple points, as they both had two assists in the win. Ville Husso struggled in the loss, allowing five goals on 33 shots against (.848 SV%). Adam Erne tallied the lone Red Wings goal (2). He also led all skaters with five hits.

Wild continue to bounce back by doubling up Senators

Marc-Andre Fleury won for the third time in four games, as he stopped 27 of 29 shots (.931 SV%) in the Wild’s 4-2 win in Ottawa. Frederik Gaudreau, Ryan Hartman and Kirill Kaprizov each had a goal and an assist for the Wild as Kaprizov picked up his 10th point of the season (5G/5A). Mats Zuccarello scored his fifth goal to go along with his team-leading 11th point while also collecting seven SOG. Anton Forsberg stopped 36 of 39 shots (.923 SV%) but lost for the first time in four starts. Alex DeBrincat filled the stat sheet with a goal (2), an assist a team-high seven shots and three hits. He now has eight points (2G/6A) in his first seven games with the Senators. Drake Batherson added an assist in the loss to bring his point streak to six games and get himself to double-digit point totals (3G/7A) through just seven games played.

Oettinger perfect as Stars shutout Capitals at home

Jake Oettinger was unbeatable Thursday night as he picked up his first shutout of the season, stopping 27 of 27 shots in a 2-0 Stars victory over the Capitals. Jason Robertson got the Stars on the board early in the first (3), with Joel Kiviranta (3) potting a short-handed marker in the third to secure the low-scoring win for the Central-leading stars. Darcy Kuemper surrendered two goals on 27 shots (.926 SV%) in the loss, bringing him to a .500 record early on (3-3-0).

Montembeault steals tight victory over Sabres as Montreal gets back on track

Sam Montembeault was a wall on Thursday, stopping 43 of 45 shots (.956 SV%) in his second straight victory as Montreal inched past Buffalo 3-2. Brendan Gallagher (2), Kaiden Guhle (1) and Josh Anderson (3) all had goals for the Canadiens, while David Savard joined Anderson as one of two Montreal skaters to finish with two points in his multi-assist effort. Eric Comrie fought back hard in the loss, allowing three goals on 34 shots (.912 SV%), while Dylan Cozens (3) and Jeff Skinner (1) scored the goals for Buffalo. Rasmus Dahlin’s six-game point streak finally came to an end, even though he played a massive 27:48 in the loss.

Hart keeps perfect record intact as Flyers shock Panthers

For a fifth straight winning start, Carter Hart’s SV% was above a .933 SV% as he kept his perfect 5-0-0 record in tact Thursday, stopping 48 of 51 shots (.941 SV%) in a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers. Tony DeAngelo also continued his hot start to the season, scoring a goal (2) and adding four blocked shots to bring him to six points in seven games. Scott Laughton (3), Zack MacEwen (2) and Joel Farabee (2) each had goals for the Flyers. Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny each picked up a pair of assists to push both above a point per game on the season. Ivan Provorov was held off the scoresheet but put up a freakishly high nine blocked shots in the win. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed four goals on 22 shots as he lost his third straight start. Florida got all their scoring from their defence as Gustav Forsling (2), Josh Mahura (2) and Brandon Montour (2) each picked up their second goal of the season. Montour’s powerplay goal was his fifth point (2G/3A) in six games, as he remains a great fantasy target while filling in for Aaron Ekblad.

Josi and Saros help Nashville cruise past St. Louis in Central showdown

Nashville snapped a four-game losing streak on the back of Roman Josi’s three-point (1G/2A) and seven SOG performance. Juuse Saros finished with an SV% above .900 for only the second time this season, as he stopped 33 of 35 shots for his second win (2-3-1). Matt Duchene (3A), Filip Forsberg (3A), and Cole Smith (2A) each enjoyed their first multi-point games of the season. Tanner Jeannot (3), Michale McCarron (1), Zach Sanford (1), Ryan Johansen (3) and Mikael Granlund (1) all scored as Nashville successfully shook up their lineup in the win. Thomas Greiss struggled for his second loss in as many games, allowing five goals on 41 shots (.878 SV%), while Robert Thomas (1) and Brayden Schenn (1) added the two Blues’ goals.

McDavid hat-trick ends Blackhawks win streak as Edmonton narrowly edges out Chicago

Connor McDavid reminded us all why he is the greatest player in the world as he scored his second hat-trick of the 2022-23 season (6,7,8) and added an assist to grab a share of the NHL lead in points with 15 (8G/7A) in eight games played.

Leon Draisaitl tied McDavid for the league lead as his goal (4) and two assists also brought him to 15 points (4G/11A). In the win, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins joined in on the fun with a three-point (1G/2A) performance. Nugent-Hopkins now has 11 points (5G/6A) in his last six games. Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard each picked up a pair of assists, and five Oilers ended the game with multiple points. Jack Campbell struggled despite moving to 4-2-0 on the season, as he allowed five goals on 36 shots (.861 SV%) for his third win in his last four games. Alex Stalock finally came down to earth after winning his last three starts, allowing six goals on 38 shots (.842 SV%) and nearly doubling his goals against the year (13 GA). Patrick Kane ascended above a point-per-game with a goal (2) and two assists bringing him to eight points (2G/5A) in seven games. Max Domi also continued his resurgent season, scoring his fourth goal and adding two assists to get to seven points (4G/3A) in seven games since joining the Blackhawks.

Sharks spoil start of Maple Leafs’ California tour with Karlsson’s overtime goal

Erik Karlsson continued his early Norris Trophy case scoring a minute into overtime (4) to add to his two assists and seven SOG effort as he now has nine points (4G/5A) to tie Rasmus Dahlin as NHL’s defenseman point leader.

Kaapo Kahkonen earned his first win in four starts stopping 22 of 25 shots (.880 SV%) as the Sharks handed the Maple Leafs their second straight loss in a 4-3 win Thursday. Logan Couture had two goals (3,4) and an assist, while Timo Meier also enjoyed a multi-point game scoring his first goal of the season and adding an assist. Alexander Barabanov joined them as the final Shark with more than one point in the win ending with two assists. Auston Matthews finally got back in the scoring column (2), ending a six-game goal drought as he also led all skaters with seven SOG. Mitch Marner had a goal (2) and an assist, while Morgan Reilly (2A) and Alex Kerfoot (2A) joined him as the other Maple Leafs to have multiple points. Erik Kallgren struggled for his second straight loss allowing four goals on 31 shots (.871 SV%)

Canucks finally win as Mikheyev leads Vancouver over Seattle

Vancouver remained undefeated all-time against the Seattle Kraken (5-0-0) as they finally won their first game of the season (1-5-2). Ilya Mikheyev scored his first two goals since joining the Canucks in the offseason, while Elias Pettersson, Andrei Kuzmenko and Conor Garland each had a goal and an assist in the win. Luke Schenn had two assists to go along with his game-leading seven hits. Martin Jones struggled yet again, allowing four goals on only 18 shots (.778 SV%), but Jaden Schwartz (1G/1A) and Jordan Eberle (2A) finished the game as the only Kraken with more than one point. Matty Beniers scored his fourth goal to continue his strong Calder Trophy campaign, as he now has seven points (4G/3A) in nine games.

Jets spread out scoring as they down Kings high scoring affair

Connor Hellebuyck continued his strong play of late, stopping 40 of 44 shots (.909 SV%) to earn the win just three nights after pitching a shutout over the Blues. Mark Scheifele (5), Adam Lowry (1), Pierre-Luc Dubois (3), Nate Schmidt (1), Axel Jonsson-Fjallby (1) and Blake Wheeler (1) spread out the scoring as the Jets downed the Kings 6-4 in Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick had one of the worst starts of his career, allowing five goals on 18 shots (.722 SV%) in the loss. Trevor Moore was the lone Kings skater with more than a point as he picked up a goal (1) and an assist to bring his quietly strong season to seven points (1G/6A) in nine games played.
