Devils score a touchdown on Blue Jackets

On Sunday, Vitek Vanecek stopped 20 of 21 shots (.952 SV%) as New Jersey handled the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-1 on home ice. Nico Hischier had a goal (4) and an assist while leading all skaters with eight SOG to raise his season point totals just above a point-per-game with nine points (4G/5A) in eight games. Jesper Bratt also continued his scorching start to the season, grabbing a goal (4) and an assist to bring his Devils’ points lead to 15 points (4G/11A) in nine games. Jack Hughes joined Hischier and Bratt as the third Devil to get multiple points, as he had two assists in the win. Elvis Merzlinkins was busy all night, allowing seven goals on 53 shots in his fourth loss of the year (2-4-0). Yegor Chinakhov had the lone Columbus goal (2) as the second-year winger now has six points (2G/4A) in his first ten games. Columbus is now 3-7-0 and have given up the most goals against per game (4.40) in the NHL. They head to Finland to take on the Colorado Avalanche on Friday/Saturday.

Boldy helps Fleury win third straight as Wild take shootout over Blackhawks

Marc-Andre Fleury continued to improve off his horrific start to the season as he stopped 23 of 26 shots (.885 SV%) on his way to his third straight victory (4-1-0) as Minnesota topped Chicago 4-3 in a shootout. Matt Boldy had two of the Wild’s three goals, as he is now up to a point-per-game with eight points (5G/3A) in eight games. Mason Shaw was the other Wild player with multiple points, as he tallied a goal (1) and an assist for the first points of his young NHL career. Alex Stalock played well, turning aside 32 of 35 shots (.914 SV%) but took his second straight loss (3-2-1). Andreas Athanasiou (3) may have scored the goal of the year, while Jonathan Toews (5) and Jake McCabe (1) scored the other Chicago goals.

Eichel propels Golden Knights over Jets in OT

Adin Hill has still yet to lose since dawning a Vegas Golden Knights jersey after stopping 23 of 24 shots (.958 SV%) for his fourth win in as many starts (4-0-0) as Vegas topped Winnipeg 2-1 in overtime. Jack Eichel (4) scored the overtime winner with just seven seconds left in the extra period.

Eichel also assisted on the game’s opening goal and now has 10 points (4G / 6A) in 10 games. Mark Stone scored the first goal (3) and got the helper on the game-winner. Connor Hellebuyck undeservedly took the loss after stopping 46 of 48 shots (.958 SV%).

Zegras ends Ducks losing skid in overtime vs. struggling Maple Leafs

Trevor Zegras scored his second goal of the night (5,6) halfway through overtime to end Anaheim’s seven-game losing streak, as the Ducks took the tight matchup 4-3 over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jakob Silverberg (3) and Dimitry Kulikov (1) scored the other two other goals for the Ducks, while John Gibson played well, stopping 33 of 36 shots (.917 SV%). Erik Kallgren earned his third straight loss, allowing four goals on 39 shots (.897 SV%) as the Leafs dropped their fourth straight contest. Auston Matthews (3), Denis Malgin (2) and Calle Jarnkrok (2) all had goals for the Leafs, while William Nylander led all Toronto skaters with two assists.

Rangers edge past Coyotes in tight Sunday battle

Igor Shesterkin stopped 18 of 20 shots (.900 SV%) as he stayed perfect in regular time (5-0-2), helping the Rangers beat the Coyotes 3-2 on the road. Artemi Panarin was his usual highly productive self, collecting a goal (5) and two assists and now ranks fourth in the NHL with 15 points (5G/10A) in nine games. Alexis Lafreniere (2) and Mike Zibanejad (6) had the two other goals for the Rangers. Connor Ingram played well in a losing effort, stopping 36 of 39 shots (.923 SV%) as the Coyotes picked up their fourth loss in their last five games. Lawson Crouse (3) and Nick Bjustad (1) were the two Coyotes to beat Shesterkin, while Dylan Guenther enjoyed the first multi-point game of his career with two assists in 12:04 TOI.
