Daily NHL betting guide: January 21

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

The model is not recommending any bets at the moment but here are the games that are close and at which point they would become recommended bets.

Tyler Seguin to score a goal at Detroit Red Wings (+241)

Seguin has had a disappointing season, but has started to heat up. Since being reunited with Jamie Benn and Denis Gurianov at the start of January, the trio is carrying a 56.3 CF%, 4.3 xGF/60, 38.6 SCF/60 and 20.5 HDCF/60. They’ve been dominant and draw a friendly matchup on Friday. Seguin has scored in back-to-back games, while firing 14 shots on goal. If he can continue that shot production, Seguin will have a good chance of lighting the lamp again tonight.

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick

Pittsburgh Penguins/Columbus Blue Jackets Over 6.0 goals (-125)

With both of these teams having played last night, I think we could get a Casey DeSmith (3.47 GAA) vs Joonas Korpisalo (3.95 GAA). The over has hit in three of the last five for the Penguins and it’s hit every time that the Blue Jackets have played the second of back-to-back games. I think we’re in for a high-scoring affair tonight.

Prop Pick

Tyler Bertuzzi Over 0.5 assists vs. Dallas Stars (+140)

Bertuzzi has picked up an assist in four of his last five games and tonight, the Red Wings are going up against a Stars team that just allowed four goals to the Buffalo Sabres last night and five to the Montreal Canadiens earlier this week. I like the Red Wings to score and +140 is a good price for the Bertuzzi assist.
