Sabres vs Capitals | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Capitals -167 Favorites

Washington will be without four of its top players heading into Friday’s matchup with Buffalo because they were added to the COVID-19 list on Wednesday. The Capitals were also fined $100,000 because winger Alex Ovechkin, center Evgeny Kuznetsov, defenseman Dmitry Orlov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov all reportedly broke protocols with regards to COVID-19. That said, the Sabres have lost three of the past four meetings, seven of nine and 14 of 18.

Rangers vs Penguins | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Penguins -175 Favorites

Pittsburgh will try to win its third straight game since an 0-2 start when New York comes to town for the first of two to close out a four-game homestand. The OVER is a perfect 4-0 for the Penguins so far this season, and they needed extra time to win each of their last two games. Pittsburgh was able to win in a shootout and overtime with goalie Casey DeSmith in net after Tristan Jarry faltered in losing the team’s first two games. The Rangers have dropped two of their first three games, but they have won the past two meetings after a three-game series skid.

Oilers vs Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Maple Leafs -154 Odds

Edmonton will go for a two-game sweep of Toronto following a 3-1 win as a +130 road underdog on Wednesday. The Oilers saw Leon Draisaitl score the game-winning goal on the power play midway through the third period while goalie Mikko Koskinen (25 saves) was solid between the pipes. The UNDER has surprisingly cashed in Edmonton’s last three games. The Maple Leafs have now lost the past two meetings with the Oilers after winning seven straight in the series.

Sharks vs Wild | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Wild -150 Favorites

San Jose continues a season-long eight-game road trip with the first of two consecutive games at Minnesota. The Sharks have split their first four games against the Arizona Coyotes and St. Louis Blues, going 1-1 against both teams, with the OVER cashing three times during that stretch. It is also worth noting that each of San Jose’s two wins were decided in a shootout. The Wild return home from a 3-1 road trip but have lost five of the past six meetings with the Sharks.

Red Wings vs Blackhawks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Blackhawks -150 Favorites

One of the NHL’s best rivalries will start up again in Chicago when Detroit visits for the first of two straight games. The Blackhawks have yet to pick up a victory so far this season, going 0-4 and surrendering five goals in every game while starting three different goalies with the OVER on a 3-0 run. The Red Wings have fared better recently in winning two of their last three games, and the UNDER is 3-1 for them overall this year. Chicago has won four of the past five meetings.

Predators vs Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Predators -125 Favorites

Dallas will finally begin its season following a COVID-19 outbreak when it hosts Nashville for the first of two games during a four-game homestand. The Stars have lost the past two meetings with the Predators since putting together a five-game series winning streak that included three games of a playoff matchup two years ago. Nashville has blanked Dallas in each of the last two meetings, with netminder Juuse Saros starting both games and making a combined 70 saves.

Golden Knights vs Coyotes | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Golden Knights -165 Favorites

Vegas has already started its campaign at 4-0 for the first time in franchise history and will attempt to become the NHL’s first 5-0 team in its first road game at Arizona. The Golden Knights swept the Coyotes in a pair of games at T-Mobile Arena earlier in the week, outscoring them 9-4 and covering the puckline each time as the total went OVER in both. Arizona has lost the past four meetings now – all on the road – and also dropped four of five all-time in the series at home. Vegas will likely start Robin Lehner here in goal over Marc-Andre Fleury, with the duo continuing to alternate and winning each of their first two appearances to keep the team perfect.

Avalanche vs Ducks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Avalanche -222 Favorites

Colorado will look to bounce back from a disappointing loss on Thursday next against Anaheim in the second game of a back-to-back situation. The Avalanche blew a 2-0 lead in a 4-2 setback to the Los Angeles Kings in the first game of the back-to-back, and they have dropped two of three when playing the second. The Ducks last played on Wednesday and fell 3-2 to the Minnesota Wild as +120 home underdogs to drop to 1-2-1 on the season. The UNDER has cashed in Anaheim’s last three games, and the team has won four of five against Colorado.
