That was an OVER result on the betting totals, and the OVER has managed to pay out in six of the last 10 games between the teams. The Sabres have scored just six goals in their last four games against the Avalanche; Colorado scored 20 in that span.

Opening NHL Odds: Penguins -175 Favorites

The Penguins have had the upper hand in games against the Kings in recent seasons, going 4-1 in their last five matchups since January 2018. Pittsburgh edged Los Angeles 5-4 as -200 home favorites on the NHL betting lines in the first matchup of the season between the teams on December 14, marking the third straight OVER result in the series. Overall the Penguins are just 5-5 in their last 10 contests against the Kings, with the OVER/UNDER going 4-5-1.

Opening NHL Odds: Golden Knights -185 Favorites

The Oilers have a small edge on the Golden Knights in all-time meetings between the teams, with Edmonton going 5-4 in their nine matchups since Vegas came into the league in 2017. That includes a 4-2 Oilers victory as +165 road underdogs on the NHL moneyline when the teams last met on November 23, an UNDER result on the betting totals. The UNDER has paid out in three of the last four games between the teams, going 4-5 between them overall.
