Hurricanes at Capitals | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Capitals -135 Favorites

The Hurricanes put up three goals in the third period on Monday night to get past the Capitals 5-2 as -120 home betting favorites and force Game 7 of this first-round series on Wednesday. Jordan Staal, Justin Williams, and Dougie Hamilton had the goals for Carolina in the third period on Monday, with Warren Foegele and Teuvo Teravainen also scoring for the Hurricanes in the contest, and Petr Mrazek making 23 saves. Alex Ovechkin, with his fourth of the series, and Brett Connolly replied for the Capitals, with Braden Holtby making 31 saves in the defeat.

Washington had been set as a +100 underdog for Game 6, and after opening the best-of-seven series with two straight wins at home the Capitals are now 1-3 in the past four contests. The home team is a perfect 6-0 in the series, with the OVER paying out for totals bettors in four of the six games. The Capitals are 8-2 in their last 10 games at home dating back to the regular season, with the OVER/UNDER going 4-6 in that span. The Hurricanes are just 4-6 in their last 10 games on the road and the OVER/UNDER went 5-5 on the totals in those games.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will take on the New York Islanders in the second round. The Islanders had no trouble with the Pittsburgh Penguins last round, winning in a sweep.
