Hurricanes at Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Islanders -154 Favorites

Brock McGinn scored in double overtime on Wednesday night to give the Hurricanes a 4-3 win over the Capitals and a 4-3 upset victory in that first-round series, setting up this second-round date with the Islanders. Carolina was down 2-0 and 3-2 in that first-round set, losing each of its first three games at Washington, before coming up with the road victory as +135 underdogs in Game 7. That was the third straight OVER result on the totals for the Canes.

The Islanders had a much easier time in the first round, sweeping the Penguins while giving up just six goals in the four games. That has had New York idle since April 16, when they topped Pittsburgh 3-1 to complete the sweep as +150 road underdogs on the NHL odds. The UNDER has paid off in 14 of the Islanders’ last 18 games dating all the way back to March 11.

Carolina went just 1-3 against New York during the regular season, and they’re just 3-7 in the past 10 meetings between the clubs. The OVER/UNDER went 3-6-1 for bettors in that span.

Avalanche at Sharks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Sharks -145 Favorites

The Sharks mounted a historic comeback in Game 7 of their first-round series with the Golden Knights, scoring four power-play goals in the third period and again in overtime to win 5-4 as small -110 favorites at home on the NHL betting lines. San Jose won the first game of that best-of-seven set, then lost three straight, then won three straight to advance to face the Avalanche. The OVER paid out on the betting totals in five of their seven first-round games.

The Avalanche had a less dramatic path to the second round, falling in their first-round opener to the favored Flames and then rolling to four straight victories capped off by a 5-1 win as +155 road underdogs on April 19. Colorado scored 17 goals over their four wins against the Flames, with Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon combining for 17 points in the series.

San Jose won all three meetings with Colorado during the regular season, and the Avalanche are just 3-7 in their past 10 matchups overall. The OVER/UNDER went 8-1-1 in those games.
